About | Human Rights Alliance for Child Refugees & Families

MISSION: The Human Rights Alliance for Child Refugees and Families is committed to uplift and defend the human rights of refugees and migrants, especially women, children, and LGBTQ communities, who have been directly affected by forced migration as a result of U.S. political and economic policies.

HISTORY: On Thursday, June 19th, 2014, a group of concerned community members, (im)migrant advocates, and organizers came together to strategize how to address the recent human rights crisis taking place on the U.S.-Mexico border as more and more unaccompanied minors were detained and held in warehouses called "hieleras" under inhumane conditions all across the United States. We are deeply concerned with the way the media is portraying this as a "humanitarian crisis" as a means to justify military intervention while expanding the illegal practice of migrant/family detention centers to incarceration of refugee women, youth, and LGBTQI community.
